Decathlon UK - Surrey Quays

Decathlon is a French sports goods retailer and Surrey Quays store is their largest flagship store in the UK, located near the Canada Water bus stations.

Challenge

Decathlon is currently pursuing several sustainable policies in the UK, including the provision of equipment maintenance services, the use of renewable and recycled materials, and the latest second life services. However, it is difficult for consumers to understand the substantial environmental benefits of this change in production behaviour and the way consumers participate in it.

Cooperation Mode

This research cooperated with Decathlon UK and Surrey Quays office ****to explore the diversified activity space as a start point of sustainability community engagement. Decathlon UK provided me a design intern position from June to September 2021.

Outcome

"Sustainability Team Up" is a service model that combines physical retail stores experiences and online after-sales service. To help customers express their voices when they make the purchasing decision, this service uses physical touchpoints in the store and empowers staff to strengthen the customer relationship.

My Role

This design project was my graduate project in my study at MA Service Design, LCC, UAL. I was part of the sustainability team at Decathlon SQ to develop a future service for sustainability Initiative. The research process supported and guided by Lecturer Dr. Lara Salinas and Associate Lecturer Cordula Friedlander.
